How to find Heirs at Law
As a rule all reasonable leads should be followed but not to exhaustion.
- Birth certificates, marriage applications, death certificates
- Military records, obtained from dept of defense
- Government records such as bureau of census, social security administration, IRS
- Private institutional records, hospitals, churches, cemeteries
- Private employers, unions, trade associations
- Civic and fraternal organizations
- Family records such as family bibles, family trees, correspondences
- Court records of adoptions, marriage dissolution, probate administration
- Genealogical companies (DNA)
